Save neighbourhood policing in London – Sign the petition

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-neighbourhood-policing-in-london

Since 2010 the Government have cut the Metropolitan Police budget by almost £600m resulting in 5,585 fewer uniformed officers on the streets of London dedicated to neighbourhood teams.

Now the Mayor is considering plans to axe ALL of London’s neighbourhood PCSOs in a bid to cut costs.

We the undersigned believe that the Mayor’s plan to axe all of London’s local PCSOs would decimate neighbourhood policing in the capital and would mean far fewer officers on the beat in our communities.

We believe the Mayor should abandon his plan to scrap London’s PCSOs and consult local communities about the future of policing in the capital as opposed to doing it but stealth. We also call on the Mayor to oppose the Home Secretary’s savage cuts to the Metropolitan Police.

The Little Theatre in Harold Wood brings you some Halloween entertainment – “The Exorcism” – Wed 28 to Sat 31 October

Ex-A5-FLYER-FOR-Mark-copy

The Little Theatre’s next play is just the ticket for Halloween – a ghost story called ‘The Exorcism’ by Don Taylor! Four friends gather in a remote country cottage to celebrate the festive season – whether or not they live to tell the tale remains to be seen … Screened on BBC TV as an episode of the 1972 ‘Dead Of Night’ series, this play had the reputation of being the scariest hour on TV. It opened in the West End in 1975 and tragically actress Mary Ure took her own life after opening night, adding to the plays already dark PR. But don’t worry, our actors are all fit for purpose!

Performances of this ghost story are at The Little Theatre, Methodist Church, Harold Wood, RM3 0DU, Wed 28-Sat 31 October at 8pm nightly, plus 2:30pm Saturday matinee. Why not go as a group – you may not want to go home alone! Tickets £7 on door or reserve on 01708 341442 susiedrama@gmail.com

The Great Charity Balloon Race Results

anica-balloonrace

The results are in for the Great Charity Balloon Race for Bertie’s Battle! Pinney Talfourd Solicitors released over 600 balloons at Upminster Cricket Club two weeks ago in a mass of purple across the sky and have been receiving balloon tags from across England and Europe.

Local residents and fellow businesses generously donated to Bertie’s Battle, Pinney Talfourd’s charity of the year, in return for a balloon and tag at the event.

Each tag was attached to a balloon which took flight on a westerly wind towards Romford before being whisked downwind to the coast. Tags have been returned from Bognor Regis, France and one determined little balloon even managed to fly over 500 miles to reach Switzerland!

The furthest ten (landed) balloons were mapped on Pinney Talfourd’s website and the owner of the furthest balloon, and winner of an Amazon gift voucher, is Anica Holderness of Romford. Her balloon, number 316, made it all the way to Shaffhausen in Switzerland where Mr Wittwer discovered it near his home and posted it back. Pinney Talfourd will also send Mr Wittwer a token of appreciation for his community spirit.

Support was fantastic and the event raised over £1,700 for Bertie’s fund. Bertie was diagnosed with Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy grade III at birth and has no swallow reflex, dystonia, visual and hearing impairment and cerebral palsy. His family are raising £30,000 to take him to Panama for Stem Cell therapy, a treatment which is not available in the UK. They are being assisted by Tree of Hope, a charity committed to assisting sick children like Bertie. Pinney Talfourd has raised in excess of £4,000 since May to help them on their way.

Donations are still being accepted for Bertie’s Battle. If you would like to make a donation please visit www.treeofhope.org.uk/berties-battle/
