Romford Masterplan Public Consultation opens – London Borough of Havering

Have your say on the Romford Town Centre Masterplan

The public consultation of the Romford Masterplan opens today, Monday 30 September 2024.

This consultation marks a significant step in shaping the future of Romford, ensuring that the voices of residents, businesses and stakeholders are heard and incorporated into the development plans.

The Romford Masterplan was approved for consultation by Cabinet on 18 September 2024 following extensive public consultation earlier in the year.

Its key features include improved public spaces in particular the marketplace, re-naturalising the River Rom, and enhancing other green spaces.

It also includes new housing designed to meet the needs of a growing population, and supporting the delivery of infrastructure.

Residents are encouraged to attend the consultation drop-in sessions held at Romford Library, where they will have the opportunity to review the proposed plans, ask questions and provide feedback.

  • Wednesday 3 October 2024, 10am to 12noon
  • Wednesday 23 October 2024, 12noon to 2pm

Councillor Graham Williamson, Cabinet Lead for Regeneration and Development, said:

“This is a pivotal moment for Romford. We are committed to creating a masterplan that reflects the aspirations and needs of our community and I urge everyone to take part and help shape the future of our town.”

Closing date is Monday 11 November, at 11:59pm and feedback from the consultation will be used to refine the masterplan before it is finalised and submitted for adoption in early 2025.

Pinney Talfourd Wills & LPA Seminars – September & October 2024

Wills and LPA Seminar

Why now is the time to make sure
your affairs are in order.

Join our Private Client team this autumn for one of our free seminars on the importance of having a Will and a Lasting Power of Attorney. Following the presentation, our dedicated Private Client team will be available to answer your questions.

Why you need a Will

Did you know that over half of people in the UK currently do not have a Will? This oversight can lead to unfortunate complications after one’s passing. Without a valid Will, family members may contest your wishes, causing your assets to end up in unintended hands and potentially leaving your loved ones in financial distress. Moreover, resolving such matters can be both time-consuming and costly.

The significance of Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

It is estimated that over 850,000 people in the UK are affected by dementia, with this number projected to rise to one million by 2025. Dementia can deprive individuals of their ability to make decisions. However, a simple yet powerful document, a Lasting Power of Attorney, allows you to nominate a trusted person to make crucial financial and/or healthcare decisions on your behalf.

The seminars will take place on:

Brentwood – Saturday 21 September 2024 – 09:45am to 11:30am
Pinney Talfourd, 30 Brentwood High Street, Brentwood, Essex CM14 4AJ

Upminster – Saturday 12 October 2024 – 09:45am to 11:30am
Pinney Talfourd Solicitors, 54 Station Road, Upminster, Essex RM14 2TU

Report from Tuesday 11 June Forum Meeting

HAVERING OVER 50s FORUM 11th JUNE 2024 AT HAVERING TOWN HALL

Our monthly meeting was held this morning to a good attendance.  As some of you will know, our Chair Cliff Reynolds has health issues at present and has decided to take a break from his duties for a while.  The decision was taken at an Executive meeting recently that Wendy Brice-Thompson, former Mayor and councillor would take on the role of Acting Chair until Cliff’s return.  We all wish Cliff the best for his health and look forward to seeing him in the not too distant future.

Our speaker this month was unable to attend and so the Acting Chair invited various guests present to give an update on their duties around the Borough and to take questions.

Firstly Met. Police Officers Chris Hackin and Sue Sullivan told us about crime levels locally, enforcement of rules for e.scooters, beggers on trains and the homeless problems. PCSO Sullivan spoke about the emergency telephone number of 159 for any bank emergencies i.e. loss of bank cards.

Two representatives from Healthwatch gave a brief update and our Champion, Cllr. Mandy Anderson told us about the PANTs campaign and the library consultation. Cabinet Member Cllr. Barry Mugglestone took questions on deer culling and the management of our neighbourhood trees.

Our President, Pam Light took a straw poll as to whom would be interested in a Garden Party on 28th August.  After a positive show of hands, it was agreed that we go ahead with this event, at the HAD garden in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch.

The Acting Chair reminded everyone that an Executive meeting would be held this Thursday at The Railway Tavern and that our next full meeting would be on the 13th August.

Report from Tuesday 21 May Forum Meeting

Those of you who came along for our regular scheduled meeting this morning will know that unfortunately it had to be cancelled due to circumstances outside our control. This was because of an arson attack on the Town Hall on Monday evening which meant that the Council Chamber had been full of smoke and was deemed unusable by the fire brigade and Town Hall staff.

We gathered outside the main doors while we decided what was the best thing to do and although the Baptist Church across the road offered us a room for the morning, it would have come at a cost. Several members present would have found it difficult to get themselves up and down the subways and walk up the other side of Main Road so it was decided to cancel the meeting entirely.

A small amount of business was done though, al fresco in the rather chilly weather. Due to a lack of ticket sales, it was agreed that the Garden Party booked for June would be deferred until later in the year when hopefully there might be more interest.

Our Chairman, Cliff Reynolds then announced that he was standing down as Chair for a few months due to health reasons. We wish Cliff all the best and look forward to him resuming his duties when he feels better.

Our next meeting will be on the 11th June. There is no meeting in July and at the meeting on the 13th August, our speaker will be Denise Kabir from the Royal Institute for the Blind. Denise has recently taken up the post of ECLO (Eye Care Liaison Officer) at Queen’s Hospital. She will talk to us about diagnosis of sight impairment and take your questions afterwards.
